ISSUE: 2000/XP Search does not display results from files with Unknown file type

DETAIL: Within Windows 2000 or XP (possibly 2003 server), when searching for text within a file, files which include text but are unknown file types will not be included in the search results.

IMPORTANT: You are editing the Windows Registry this can be VERY dangerous, and you should back it up first. If in doubt, Consult an Expert.

FIX:
Either:

  • Load Registry Editor (Start>Run>regedit)
  • Search registry for FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions and change DWORD value to =1

Or :

  • Load regedit (as above)
  • Go to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex]
  • and change: "FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions"=dword:00000000 TO-> "FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions"=dword:00000001
